CONGRATULATIONS to both 6A and 6B for a FANTASTIC job at your very first official advisor challenge!!!! And an extra special congrats to 6A for taking second place!!!! I'm really proud of you guys and your amazing effort and enthusiasm. I thought we had Mrs. G's class there in the final but oh well...we will get them in the PAPER FISH SWITCH on Thursday!

HOMEWORK:

  • Math: leave a comment on this BLOG and explain to me what your current or favorite estimation strategy is and if you need to, give me an example of how you could use it.
  • Science: nothing
  • Advisor/other: odds & ends (outlines in, parent letters, etc...)

NOTE TO PARENTS:
  • This Wednesday evening we have our famous parent night and you don't want to miss it! It starts at 7pm and we hope that you can make it.
  • Also, I will need two volunteers to walk with 6A to Nicholas Sheran park on the 18th of September and back to school again for our school cross country meet. Please call or email me (or tell me at parent night) if you are able to help.
  • How are those letters coming along? Thanks to those who have already completed their homework : ) !

My favorite estimation stratagy is when you take a little bit of stuff out and guess the amount of stuff you have in your hand. And then you count the rest in the jar.

My favourite strategy to use when I am estimating is taking half out and counting them then I add the other half to whatever I counted as half.

Example: Say I took out half of the clothes pins and I counted 52 for half I would add the other half(52) which would be 104 and that would be my estimate.Kyler

Hi Mrs.V! My favourite method of estimation is counting the number of items in a layer, then counting the number of layers and multiplying the numbers.

MY STRATEGY IS TO TAKE AROUND HALF OF THE JAR AND COUNT IT . AFTER THAT I MULTIPLIE IT BY TWO. AND ESTIMATE IT .
